Thank you, Alan Nova Lomax, for your many insightful writings AND for inspiring James to explore Burnet Road and then document it beautifully. I hope I will be able to find The Sole of Houston.

The good old hominess of North Central Austin's working class neighborhoods was a balm to me when I lived there. In my last few years there, sometimes I just wanted to go somewhere unconnected from all of the boho irony and self-importance. Where no one knew my name. Places like the Poodle Dog and Charlie's Attic over on Airport. Even The Carousel, briefly, until it got swarmed by Gen-Xers.

Some of that hominess still resides down here, but requires diligence to uncover. Thanks for reading. I appreciate your comments.

Such a lovely read of your stroll. I felt like I was there with you.

I believe one of John Nova Lomax's gifts was getting to know the people he met on his strolls and sharing their stories. I've lived not far from Burnet Road for many years (and have documented some of its history). Yes, this area is changing, and yet there are people you'll meet along Burnet Road and in the neighborhoods around it that experience a rich sense of community, despite the changes. Next time, maybe you'll take the time to get to know them and share their stories, too.

Thanks, Susan. I agree with you. I also apologize to all readers for my editorial error with John's first name. I had Lomax family on the brain when writing and just erred.
